The shop has changed hands within the same working family since Samuel Brenman opened its doors, and the name over the register never came down.
1927
Samuel Brenman opens the shop
A neighborhood meat market on Gerritsen Avenue, built on full-service butchering and a made-to-order counter.
Following Decades
Basil carries the trade forward
The shop stays a working butcher counter through the mid-century growth of Gerritsen Beach and Sheepshead Bay.
Next Generation
Edward Izzo takes over
Edward learns the trade from the ground up and keeps the same standards: hand-selected meat, cut on request.
Today
Glenn Izzo runs the counter
Edward's son Glenn started at the shop at age twelve. He now hand-picks every piece of meat that crosses the case, with over three decades behind the counter.
